THE GIRL WITH THE BROKEN SMILE
(formerly SHE WILL BE LOVED by Maroon 5)
Kevin Beck sent me some files that he liked. This was one of them.
I also got this file from Christopher Eddy but decided not to open it. The song gives me a sad feeling when I hear Maroon 5 sing it. Its great, no doubt, but I’m not always in the mood for the tone of the production on the Maroon 5 record. I skipped by it and left it unopened.
Kevin sent it to me as one of his favorites we had done live together so I gave it a click. I guess I should’ve known I’d have gone and just tried to rock the shit out of it, and that’s exactly what we did. Kevin is playing an electric drumset and I’m playing a Takemine acoustic split through three channels on the board, panning the two overdriven and slightly reverb saturated treble cut channels left and right and bringing them down in the mix that created this …rumble …when I hit the strings harder.
But, listen to Kev on those drums! He was the drummer on the first gig I ever played, and he was the drummer on the SONS OF CEMENT BONES tracks. He’s a killer rock drummer,
and we lock in super tight together.
This track is an audience recording to a ZOOM H4 digital recorder that has been separated with AI to manipulate the tracks for mixing and processing.
