TAKE MY WORD, I BEEN AROUND
(formerly TUSH by ZZTOP)

That is a cassette tape. It has been in Kevin Beck’s possession since 1991! On that tape is a band that had the beginnings of WHITEBREAD: Kevin Beck on drums, Jodi Marolda on bass, Derek Reeves on lead guitar and Me on Vocals. I had not yet begun to play guitar and the rhythm guitar here is played by Gabriel Gustafson, then Jodi’s roommate.
This band didn’t have a name as far as Kevin and I are concerned, and if it did I think it should be HOBAN’S HEROES. We were at Peter and Amy Hoban’s house in the cellar having a party. It was perfect. Small, cramped, low ceiling….only a few people could be in the room with us at once and would have to rotate in and out of the cellar to either watch or get away from the racket.
This was my first gig ever, and this was our first song ever. While I have no idea what I’m doing I sure do sound like a natural at it! Like any young band we were great at middle parts and not so good at beginnings and endings. There are a few more songs on this tape, but none better than this.
