RECORDINGS OF COVER SONGS BE IT STUDIO OR LIVE THAT WERE DONE IN HOMAGE AND WITH THE BEST OF INTENTIONS HOPING NOT TO INCUR LEGAL ACTION IN ANY WAY

BRIGHT, SUN-SHINY DAY
(formerly I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW by Johnny Nash)

I feel like I’m really underselling Peter Fagan here…..When we were playing around 2009-13 we would love to make these Vegas-type arrangements of classic rock songs. One night we started every song with the same exact intro vamp, no matter the key or tempo. He is just such a brainiac that you could go all night with a theme and keep the thread going until your ribs hurt from laughing. Meanwhile, and by the way, and whatever…..he’s playing a brilliant piano part with extended chordal landscapes that encompass what two or three other additional accompanists would play. Including the drums. With his feet on the wood floor in his dining room.
This was a Sunday night rehearsal recorded with a room microphone to a handheld Zoom H4 during one of our “Vegas Nights”. I know, (and I don’t blame him for thinking it one bit), Peter thought that I was going to horribly massacre the bridge. He didn’t know I’d been practicing it and I was ready to surprise him. The following verses felt like a victory lap. We had a cool groove going here. All that was missing was the sequined jumpsuits and a truckful of shame. (Nowhere to be found!)
