WHATCHA GOT

“Can’t keep my money in my pocket, can’t keep my money in a safe.
Can’t save it for a rainy day now, cuz it’s been rainin’ hard since May.”

From the opening slide guitar that I learned from Scott Murawski (by osmosis) to the wistful lyrics that basically say ‘you get what you get and you don’t get upset’, this song was the first one I wrote that sounded like it had already been written somewhere…by someone. Back in 1999, you couldn’t search the world in 3 seconds on a watch. I swore there was no way I wrote this song. Everyone I played it for liked it. Everyone. That had never happened before. Damn. I wrote a song. A real song that wasn’t about a raisin, or a moistened cruller, or a recreational vehicle with a hippy dippy driver.

Basically the track that got us started in the studio. Get one in the can and take some pressure off of us as we started doing something we’d never done before. Mark Ahles on drums once more, Rich Yirga on bass, and Dom on rhythm guitars and backing vocals. Thank you to Kyle Burkholder who let me use his Peavey Wolfgang 5150 for this song’s solo.
This was Mr. Fables, and the album was HINDSIGHT.
