IF

This song is a vehicle for that guitar solo. Above this song on the list there’s a song called MURDER BY MISERY. Paul Lusky was playing lead guitar while I tried to muster up my most meaningful bluesy voice and remember the lyrics at the same time. (YMMV) Near the end of the song after the final verse, I tried to goad Paul into doing an Allman Brother’s type guitar line but he was either too focused on his fretboard and didn’t see me or couldn’t hear me. Or both. We were playing live to stereo so what we played was what we got mix-wise. Oh well. I always wanted to get one of those moments going with someone. John Macbeth and I did a small one on the end of FAMILY TREE, but he seemed skittish about trying it at first. I wasn’t about to give up, though. When we brough IF into the studio, I told Dom right away Pauly was playing the solo with me. And then I told Pauly he was playing the gold-top Les Paul when we do it. Done. Dream achieved. Before I started playing guitar, I was with some friends one summer at Highland Lake on Holland Beach. There was a band playing on the front deck of a newly built condo, and one of the guitar players had a beautiful gold-top Les Paul (and beautiful long blond hair that blew in the wind just like a rock star was supposed to look.) That turned out to be the band DIAMONDBACK, and the guitar player was named Paul Lusky. I wanted to play with him someday.
Level completed.
Dom Ursone on guitar, Rich Yirga on bass, and Jonathan Lichtig on drums.

IF is a song of naked emotion I would imagine everyone has felt at one point. It’s a shitty feeling, but I’m unsure it can be avoided no matter your mindset.
