BAGO

Written as a grunge era song when trying to make an album with the band PROON. Scotty Allshouse, Frank Brockelhurst, Bart Holcomb, Shelly Asselin and I did try and make a ton of songs. This was one of them. I remember Scotty’s sister Wendy wondering what was dying in the basement when we’d practice. BAGO was originally in the key of E major and I was trying to sound like Kurt Cobain.
It hurt. A lot. It obviously hurt Wendy as well.
The Roasters were the final resting place for BAGO. It got resurrected during the stint in Flipper Dave and was a fun little ditty to play every night. Easy chords (now in the key of G major), easy lyrics, and an overall happy sentiment. It was like playing carnival music in the middle of a crowded bar.
Greg Marshall on piano and keyboards really makes this work. John Macbeth on rhythm guitar, Mark Ahles on drums and Chuck Palmer on bass. These are the guide vocals with no modulation on them whatsoever. We were in a big hurry to get the hell out of that studio in fear for our lives. Recorded at Talcott Mountain Studios by a guy named Moose, whose name I never even knew. He did a good job when he wasn’t dealing with bullshit from the owner.
