MURDER BY MISERY
I kind of thought this should go on the DEMO page, but it’s pretty much finished. This was a soundcheck for a full band setting at what would eventually be called the Rock Barn in East Hartland, CT. The plan was to record the Mr. Fables album HINDSIGHT in that loft, and so we got some people together to see if the room had the goods for an actual studio recording.
We needed to record something to make sure we were going to tape, and seeing bow Greg Marshall was there and he excelled at the Hammond Organ, and we had Paul Lusky and Jeff Wheeler from Diamondback there too, I reached into my book of lyrics and pulled out this untested material. I’d never played it before either, but just made a snap decision to go with it. We decided it would be an Allman Brothers type of song, and set about making a map of the structure in a couple of minutes. Then we blasted it out. Done. You look back on that now and your mind is blown, but it’s all the five of us, including Jonathan Lichtig on drums, lived for…moments like this.
Never played again.
Thank you to Christopher Eddy for archiving these snapshots in time for us all. That organ solo is gorgeous and Paul and Jeff are ripping it up. Jonathan’s drums are not mic’d as this is live to a P.A. system and recorded with room microphones.
(Paul went to Berklee, you know, and can make anything sound good.)
